From 17th to 19th of September 2024, the 25 public and private partners from Italy, Latvia, Germany, Denmark, Iceland and Norway came together in Rome for the first year NOBID Consortium meeting.   

The three-day event has seen the participation of some of Europe’s most trusted identity experts, chosen to deliver a cross-border payments pilot, in line with the aims of the European Commission’s EU Digital Identity Wallet program.  

The Consortium is being actively supported by leading digital government agencies, banks, enterprises and technology providers and will leverage the mature digital identity infrastructures of the six respective nations. 

More than 100 people gathered in Rome to share updates on implementing this Large Scale Pilot project that will allow existing payment infrastructure to enable payment issuance, instant payments, account-to-account transfers and payment acceptance both in-store and online.  

In Rome the Consortium members had the opportunity to work together during brainstorming meetings, breakout rooms,  technical Work Packages sessions and open discussions, building valuable knowledge to ensure an effective cross-border interoperability. Afterwards, the plenary discussed the project’s business model, addressing  problems and delivering technical solutions, and call members to vote on relevant aspects and timing about the LSP.  

 The representatives of the NOBID Consortium had also the chance to report the progress made on the project to the European Commission. Under the Commission’s guidance, the NOBID Consortium proceeded to plan the next steps that will lead us toward a new generation of eID and electronic payment solutions for European citizens.
